Use your benefits without a physical ID card

It takes time for your insurance carrier to process your enrollment. This means it’ll take a bit longer to get your ID cards, but you’re still covered!

If you need to see a healthcare provider or fill a prescription but haven't received your ID cards, you have a couple of options:

Option one: Ask your provider for help

You can contact your healthcare provider’s office before your appointment date. Let them know your coverage started, but you haven’t received an ID card yet. Ask your provider if they can submit the claim to your carrier in 7-14 business days. The carrier should have your enrollment processed by then. Follow up with your provider once you have your ID cards.

You’ll need to tell your provider:

  • Your coverage start date

  • The name of your carrier

Example: Your coverage started on August 1st. You have a dentist appointment on August 5th, but you don’t have an ID card yet. You call your dentist’s office and let them know the date your coverage started (August 1st) and the name of your carrier. They agree to submit your claim in 7-14 business days. You go to your dentist appointment as normal. Once you receive your ID cards, you call your dentist and provide them with the information they need to submit your claim.

Option two: Submit your claim later

If you’re able to, you can pay for the service or prescription out-of-pocket (with your own money). You can submit a claim to your carrier once you have your ID cards. How does this work? Your carrier will process your claim. If approved, your carrier will reimburse you for the amount they'd usually cover. The money you spent will count towards your annual deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, if applicable.

Example: Your coverage started on August 1st. You have a doctors appointment on August 5th, but you don’t have an ID card yet. You still go to your appointment, and pay for the service out-of-pocket.

You receive your medical ID card on August 15th and submit a claim for the doctors appointment. Your carrier reimburses the amount they would usually cover for this service. The money you spent at the doctor’s office will go towards your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum for the year.

What if my provider won’t wait to submit my claim and I can’t afford to pay out-of-pocket?

Reach out to our Customer Care team through Chat or email us at help@league.com. We can check with your carrier to determine if a temporary ID card is available for you to use in the short term.

Note: We recommend you reach out to the League team at least 2 business days before your appointment. This gives us plenty of time to contact your carrier!
